Often low back and hip pain can be closely related. The common link between the two is the joint between the sacrum and the pelvic bones called the sacro-iliac. When this area is restricted it can cause lower back pain as well as tighten up the muscles around the joint. Some of these muscles are capable of putting pressure on the sciatic nerve to produce leg pain. We also see that when this joint is not moving well, the patient is forced to put extra strain on the hip and alter their stride. This can often produce hip pain, knee pain or bursitis in the hip.
The doctors at the Ortman Clinic are skilled in treating this area. In most cases as the soft tissue tension is relieved surrounding the joint the problem resolves. The majority of patients notice a decrease in pain and an increased freedom of motion with just a few treatments.
